About Kimberly Kory, M.A., L.P.C.C.

Private Clinical Experience
For the past 23 years I have been in private practice working with individuals, couples and families.  The specific issues and presenting problems have been trauma, depression and extremely challenging marriages involving adolescents and children.  Over the years I have become increasingly interested in psychological trauma and the correlating effects on a person’s life.  I recognize the great need to stay in-tune with the depth of their internal turmoil as they present it.  This has proven to be effective in establishing trust, safety and openness in the clients.  This validating interactive process creates stability and comfort in the therapist-client relationship.  I found this genuine empathic treatment to be at the essence of all healthy therapeutic change.

Because of the number of times that I have connected with a client who had a very abusive background and had left previous therapies feeling more helpless and hopeless, I have decided to research and write a book entitled:  A New Integrative Treatment of Trauma.  I am still fine-tuning this highly empathic philosophy, theory and clinical intervention.  Specifically, my "integrative" method of practice includes psychodynamic, Existential-Adlerian and systemic counseling skills.

However, in the extensive treatment I do with cancer patients and their families, or any serious illness, I tend to drop all my theoretical knowledge in favor of simply being present, loving, validating and caring for the person I am working with.  I take this very seriously and I also know this very personally.  Above and beyond all theoretical knowledge, I have found that the most effective quality in my interactions with all clients is teaching and modeling high levels of empathy, genuineness, honesty and sincere integrity.
